Sonali Bendre was born to a Maharashtrian family on January 1st, 1975 in Mumbai, India. She is a model turned actress. Having acted in more than fifty films in Bollywood, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada Feature cinema, this clearly portrays her versatility and expertise in the acting field.
Sonali took her initial education from the Kendriya Vidyalaya, Malleswaram in Bangalore and then attended the Holy Cross Convent in Thane for her high school studies. To study further, she went to the Welham Girl’s School in Dehradun. From three sisters, Sonali was quite of all and loved to read a lot.
Starting her career through some advertisements and commercials, she was selected in the “Star Dust Talent Search” and got training from many professionals, performers, actors and veterans of the film industry in Mumbai. She got her first break through Ravi Shankar Directed “Aag” in 1994. Sonali was opposite an established actor Govinda in this film.
Struggling in the early days of her Bollywood entry, Sonali became a successful actress after giving proclaimed performances in some mega hits like Diljale (1996), opposite Ajay Devgan. With no doubt, this girl had the mettle to prove her presence in Bollywood and got good critic reviews for films like Bhai (1997), Zakhm (1998), Duplicate (1998), Sarfarosh (1999), Kadhalar Dhinam (Tamil) (1999), multi starrer family drama Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999) and Anahat (2003), Chal Mere Bhai.
Sonali is among some rare actresses who have acted with 4 Khans of the Bollywood industry and well-known South Indian movie stars. She worked with Salman Khan in Dhai Akshar Prem Ke, with Aamir Khan in super hit patriotic movie Sarfarosh, in melodrama Duplicate, English Babu Desi Mem and Kal Ho Na Ho opposite Shahrukh Khan and also with Saif Ali Khan in Love Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega.
Her infectious smile and girly features were more than ado for securing an out-and-out corner in the hearts of her loving fans. Sonali has bagged numerous awards in her life. In 1994, 2001 and 2004 she was awarded Star Screen Awards for Most Promising New Comer (female), Best Supporting Actress for “Humara Dil Aapke Paas Hai” and Best Actress for Marathi movie “Anahat” respectively. In 1995 for movie “Aag”, she got Filmfare Lux New Face Award.
Sonali is a versatile actor as well as a good dancer. She had performed in many films for a special appearance as a dancer such as Gaddar, Lajja (a film about the social status of women in India and their empowerment), Bombay and Major Saab.
In the first leg of her filmy career, Sonali Bendre worked for 12 years. She bid adieu to Bollywood in year 2005 to get involved with her family. In one of her interviews when asked about her decision, she answered clearly that she is leaving acting behind to get around her two year old son and devote time to her family. Film stars on the small television screens are real wonder to be seen and Sonali since her sabbatical from Bollywood is actively involved with many television shows as a judge. Some of the television reality shows are India’s Got Talent (Season 2), Indian Idol (Fourth Season), India’s Best Dramebaaz. Sonali has also been associated with Pril Soap, Omega Watches, Dabur, Nirma, Vi-John Group etc. as a brand ambassador.
Mid 2012, Sonali announced her comeback in Bollywood and left Television reality show India’s Got Talent in which she was among one of the judges, to act in the follow-up to the film with the same name in the past, about the encounter narratives of Mumbaian dons, “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai – Dobara”. The reason mends her friendship with Ekta Kapoor, the daughter of film sensation Jeetendra.
The most recent buzz Sonali created is about her role-playing as a narrator in “Mission Sapne”, a reality TV show by Colors TV. We hope to see her acting in prominent releases in the near future.
